Sure, the opening cinematic E3 trailer for Destiny 2: Forsaken opened with the beloved Hunter Vanguard leader Cayde-6 seemingly meeting his demised but veteran Destiny players were convinced it was all a ruse. After all, Cayde-6 is an Exo and they can be rebooted, with the number of times such an event occurs being placed at the end of their name. In this case, Cayde-6 would just simply return as Cayde-7...right?
It seems that might not be the case.
"He's dead. His ghost is dead," said Bungie's Forsaken Project Lead Scott Taylor.
He continued, "We wanted to come out with that to do a couple things. We wanted to establish the tone of the game, and show that we're serious about it. We also want people to process it. You'll play a mission with him, and you're not really sure when this is going to happen, or how, so the emotional experience of that would be very different if you just turned on the game, you saw it and it was all just a shock. It's actually a little more rich and interesting if you have time to sit with it, and reflect."
Taylor would go on to state that the expansion is a revenge story and one can only imagine what Zavala and Ikora will do to the Awoken prince, Uldren Sov. Though somewhat aggravating to his peers, Cayde-6 was a beloved figure at the Tower and it's easy to imagine a scenario that sees everyone from Shaxx to the Sweeper Bot taking up arms.
Destiny 2: Forsaken will drop this fall, on September 4 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
