Bethesda Game Studios announced Fallout 76 a month ago with the first trailer for the game that suggested that we're not going to be alone in this universe anymore. Players have been wondering what Bethesda will do next with Fallout for a very long time, and a vocal group of single-player gamers may be disappointed, as Fallout 76 doesn't seem to be the Fallout 4 sequel they've been looking for.
During E3 2018, Bethesda officially confirmed that the game will be online-only and multiplayer-centric, though they did mention that it can also be played solo, but it's unclear what it means as 76 will require internet connection. According to Todd Howard, allowing PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 users to play together would be possible, but Sony's attitude has successfully killed that idea.
"We would love to do that, but right now that's not possible," director said in a recent interview with German GameStar. That won't be the first time Sony leaves the producer is an uncomfortable position, as the company forces Bethesda two years ago to end the mod support for Fallout 4 or Skyrim on PlayStation 4. It's still unclear if that concern was content related or if it was a technical issue.
Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a real person. Work together, or not, to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe.
Fallout 76 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC November 14, 2018.
