Fortnite's Playground mode has been pretty popular in the limited time it has been available thus far and even though Epic Games
has plans to make it a permanent addition to
Battle Royale, it's not quite ready yet. The sandbox mode - which allows players to practice their building and other mechanics in a safe environment with friends - was launched in June but hit a snag, forcing Epic
to temporarily disable it while they worked on a fix. It went live again on July 2 and though players have been able to mess around in the mode, it's still not perfect.
In a post on the official
Fortnite Battle Royale Reddit, Epic informed fans that Playground LTM will be turned off again on Thursday, July 12 as they continue to improve upon the mode for a future, hopefully more permanent, version.
We appreciate all of the awesome feedback we’ve received and are beginning work on the next version of Playground. We’ll be turning off the Playground LTM on Thursday, July 12th as we take it back under construction for the next version.
Epic is hoping to add more functionality to Playground mode, giving teams more control over the mode's settings. This includes:
-
1v1s and 2v2s
-
Aim assist for controllers
-
Editing other player’s structures
-
Traps affecting teammates/enemies correctly
-
Highlighting teammates on the map
-
Damaging enemies with your pickaxe
It's unclear how long Playground mode will remain under construction but it's nice to see Epic has plans to continue supporting a full creative mode in
Fortnite. Additionally, July 12 marks the start of
Battle Royale season 5 so you'll definitely have something to do when Playground mode is turned off again.
