With summer in full swing,
Overwatch's annual Summer Games event will be returning. In a developer update for July, game director teased the event's return along with the arrival of Hero 31.
Kaplan didn't mention specific dates for either, but did say Summer Games will be happening "much sooner" than in the past.
Last year's summer games ran from August 9 through August 30, so it's possible the 2019 event could begin as early as this month. Kaplan also mentioned another change to Summer Games, confirming weekly mini-challenges that will unlock Epic skins when completed. Details on the 2019 Summer Games will be coming soon.
Kaplan also teased a new Hero coming to
Overwatch.
"Well don’t worry, we are working on a hero,” Kaplan said.
“Hero number 31 is going to be awesome, but he is going to be released a little bit later than you’re used to. But he’ll be here soon enough, so don’t worry. And we think a little bit of extra time is going to make the hero even more awesome."
This will be
Overwatch's 31st Hero following
the release of Baptiste earlier this year. Check out the full update from Jeff Kaplan below.
Overwatch is free to play on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
