It's hard to believe that the 2-year anniversary of Overwatch is almost upon us. Blizzard detailed today the festivities for the annual Anniversary event, which will take place from May 22 through June 11.
Overwatch's 2018 anniversary event will bring a slew of new content, including more than 50 new cosmetic items that will accompany the re-release of all seasonal cosmetic items from the past two years. Additionally, the new Deathmatch map "Petra" will be introduced along with most of the past season brawls.
Of the new cosmetic items, 8 will be Legendary skins and 3 will be Epic. New dance emotes have also been added for Doomfirst, Moira, and Brigitte. The Anniversary event will also bring back previous seasonal cosmetic items and seasonal brawls (including those found in Overwatch: Archives) that will be rotated daily.
Players will also be able to enjoy the new Deathmatch map, Petra. In addition to Petra, Deathmatch will include a new “Competitive Mode,” which will include placement matches, skill rating tiers, and leaderboards.
Players are able to receive one bonus Legendary Anniversary Loot Box, which guarantees one Legendary item, just by simply logging in once during the event. There will also be available a 50 Loot Box Bundle, which also grants one bonus Legendary Loot Box. Blizzard also announced that Overwatch Legendary Edition - a special version of the game that includes 15 skins (Legendary, Epic, and Origin) - will be released digitally on May 22.
And finally, if you're one of the few who has yet to experience Overwatch, a free weekend event is scheduled from May 25 through May 28. If playing on PS4, you will not need a PlayStation Plus account to participate.
