History seems to be repeating itself as, once again, Epic Games have removed Season 6's new consumable "Shadow Stones" from the game until further notice.
Though Season 6 has only just begun, this marks the Shadow Stones' second removal. Yesterday they were removed due to unforeseen "issues," before quickly being re-added earlier today - at the expense of the new "Port-A-Fortress" item. Well, it seems Epic hasn't done enough playtesting as, yet again, the mysterious consumable items are gone.
Again, Epic announced their temporary removal via Twitter:
As you can expect, fans weren't pleased. The replies to Epic's tweet aren't pretty. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to the developer to test new additions more thoroughly.
The recurring issues are likely on account of the abilities the consumable provides the player after ingestion. Consuming the Shadow Stone will put you in a state in which you cannot use your weapons, are invisible to enemies (whilst stationary), and can phase through solid walls.
Either of these abilities may be proving problematic. Players have been able to phase into places they have never been before and shouldn't be allowed to now - such as the back of closed 18-wheeler trucks. There have also been reported sightings of players who have remained permanently invisible.
What do you think of the Shadow Stones' second removal? Had you tried them out yet? If so, what did you think of the Shadow Form?
Fortnite Season 6 has begun.
