The new version of
Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch is out now and it allows players to play with their friends on Xbox One, Windows 10, and even Mobile devices.
The trailer shows two players—one playing on an Xbox One and the other on a Nintendo Switch—building together, creating together, and surviving together as both companies team up to deliver the best experience possible for their customers. It goes to show that it isn't always about money but more about caring for their customers.
This
Minecraft cross-play couldn't have come out at a better time, especially after the whole fiasco that has been cross-play with
Fortnite on Sony's PlayStation 4. As a reminder,
Fortnite came out for the Nintendo Switch during this past E3 and it even managed to be downloaded over 2 million times within a couple of days. But the good news didn't last since a lot of
PlayStation 4 users noticed that they couldn't acces their Epic Games account on the Switch because Sony had locked them, thus not allowing cross-play between any platform.
A day before Sony "addressed" the cross-play issue,
Nintendo very openly discussed the whole cross-play situation saying that they were embracing the possibility to have their customers share their gaming experiences with people that owned other consoles like is the case with other titles, like
Fortnite and
Rocket League, if the developers think it's in the best interest for the games. Today, the new update for
Minecraft on the Switch is further proof that they were not just saving face and have delivered on their promise, a promise that Sony will hopefully make themselves in the future.
