Dead Cells is a 2D "
metroidvania" type of game where players explore an ever-changing castle with interconnected levels and a high level of challenge. The game was developed, and published by independent studio Motion Twin and saw a release for PC in 2017. It is a game that follows the formula laid out by classic titles like
Metroid and
Castlevania, hence the metroidvania category, as it focuses heavily on exploration and combat, making the game a must-have for fans of the genre.
Earlier this year we got an official trailer announcing that
Dead Cells was finally coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. The announcement had a lot of people excited over the news, although no release date was officially revealed.
Today we got confirmation that the game will be getting a physical release for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, as posted in the official Merge Games' Twitter account. There was no information about a physical release for the Xbox One version of the game, though. As per the tweet, Merge Games will be in charge of the publishing of the game and have announced that
Dead Cells will be launching, both digitally and physically, this
August.
You grew up with the roguelikes, witnessed the rise of the roguelites and even the birth of the roguelite-lites? We'd now like to present for your consideration our RogueVania, the illegitimate child of a modern Roguelite (Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Spelunky, etc.) and an old-school MetroidVania (Castlevania: SotN and its ilk).
Dead Cells still hasn't been given an official release date but is expected for this August.
