The Messenger is a 2D platformer game developed by Sabotage Studios and published by DevolverDigital for the Nintendo Switch and Steam.
Heavily inspired by the original
Ninja Gaiden trilogy, released for the first time back in 1988, The Messenger takes us back to the 8-Bit era, and even 16-Bit era at times—as one of the game's mechanics actually switches the graphics from 8-Bit pixel art to 16-Bit.
With
The Messenger harkening back to the 80s gaming era, it was only fitting that they decided to crank the nostalgia up to 11 and make a short movie that embraces all of the cheesiness(in a good way) of the 80s, where even the music seems to have come right out of the
Flash Gordon decade mixed with some chiptune.
The Messenger - Shinobi No Kikan was produced by Sabotage Studios, DevolverDigital, and made by Imagos Films, and shows us some pretty corny, and awesome fight sequences, as well as showing off some gameply footage from the game.
Take a look:
As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.
The Messenger is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and Steam.
