Last week, Playtonic announced that a new update for Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair would be rolling up in the coming days. As revealed by the developer, this update would be adding an optional "State Change" feature that would make the game's Impossible Lair — which is actually the final level, or first depending on how much of a masochist you are — a bit less impossible.

Recently, Playtonic has revealed the reason why they've decided to make the Impossible Lair "easier", and it does actually make a whole lot of sense. The reason? They want all players to be able to complete the game, regardless of their skills.

"For us, people being able to feel satisfied by completing the game they bought and enjoyed is more important to us than gating people out because they aren't *incredible* at platforming. It's still a challenge, it's just broken down into chunks," explained the developer on their official Twitter account.

"Ultimately, if they made it through loads of the 2D levels, it would be a huge shame if they couldn't finish the game - and we know of cases where this was the situation. It's no fun for anyone. Although we understand that some people love and thrive on really tough challenges, we didn't mean to gate out those who don't. "Get good or get out" is not a sentiment we echo," Playtonic concluded.

The difficulty level in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair tends to go up as players progress through the game, but they do have a system that helps players skip difficult segments of the levels if they lose too many lives in-between checkpoints, so it's always fair on less experienced players.

As a friendly reminder, the update that adds the "State Change" option and some cool 8-bit music tracks has finally become available for players to enjoy Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair even more than before.
