In September of last year, Square Enix announced that quite a bunch of classic Final Fantasy titles would be re-released on modern platforms, and one of those games was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles — which is a game that has only been released once, and only as a Nintendo Game Cube exclusive.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles being re-released is something that fans of the classic title have been waiting for the longest time. Unfortunately, the game hasn't released just yet, and today we have some news that will likely disappoint those who have been anticipating it.

According to official information posted on Final Fantasy's Japanese Twitter account, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will not support neither offline nor local multiplayer; a decision that has been made due to development reasons.

"As we have introduced in official broadcasts, this product does not support offline multiplayer. For development reasons, it is necessary to select either offline or online, so we selected online multiplayer so that more people can play," reads Twitter's translation of the official tweet.

This is indeed disappointing news, especially since the original game relied quite a bit on local multiplayer, which is one of the game's main selling points; or at least it was at the time it originally released.

To add insult to injury, information posted on PlayStation's official website revealed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition would feature classic couch co-op multiplayer. Again, this was almost a give, considering that the original game also featured couch co-op.

Hopefully this has all been a misunderstanding, because restricting the game's multiplayer to an online-only mode sounds, well, disappointing.

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition is an enchanting action RPG that follows a young group, known as the Crystal Caravans, as they embark on an epic journey to search for myrrh, a precious and rare liquid needed to cleanse and maintain a crystal protecting their world from the deadly gas, miasma.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is expected to release for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on the 27th of August.
