At the expense of sounding like a broken record,
Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs of all time, if not the best. Which is why a lot of users were left disappointed when the Steam version of the game, released back in February, was discovered to be nothing but a port of the mobile version of
Chrono Trigger, which is definitely the worst way to play this masterpiece.
In April, Square Enix
released a statement on the Steam Community for the game informing that they would be adding some patches that promised to fix some of the graphical issues that users had complained about since the game's release. Since then,
a patch that fixed the problems with the graphics, and the UI was released, which definitely improved on the original version they had put out.
Today, a second patch has been released and it adds a new battle UI that emulates better the look, and feel of the original
Chrono Trigger. Another welcomed change is that the resolution of the animated cutscenes has been improved, as well as the display area, plus fixing some other small bugs. The note released on Steam reads as follows:
-
A new battle user interface (UI) has been added based on the look and feel of the original CHRONO TRIGGER.
-
An option has been added to select between the UI optimised for controller/keyboard mentioned above, and the current UI optimised for mouse & touch panels. This option appears in “settings” in the main menu.
-
The game can now be paused during battle by using the pause button on controller, or the Space bar on the keyboard.
-
Adjusted the look of playable characters on the world map to be more in-line with the original version of CHRONO TRIGGER.
-
The resolution of animated cut-scenes has been improved.
-
The display area of animated cut-scenes has been increased.
-
Fixed instances where the game slowed down during certain scenes.
-
The Korean font has been updated.
-
Other small bugs are fixed.
When a newly eveloped teleportation device malfunctions, young Crono must journey through time to rescue a mysterious girl from an intricate web of past and present perils.
Chrono Trigger is out now on Steam.
