Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was released in February of 2014, with Retro Studios coming back as the developer—after working on
Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii—and published by Nintendo.
When the game came out, it wasn't long before some avid fans found out that Retro Studios had hidden a
Metroid easter egg in Busted Bayou—one of the levels in the first island within the game. The easter egg had
Metroid bounty hunter Samus Aran's ship carefully hidden in the background. While the easter egg wasn't really that difficult to find, it was still a nice touch by the studio—who are the same studio responsible for developing the fantastic Metroid Prime series.
Today, thanks to the people over at GameXplain, we found out that a new
Metroid easter egg was found in
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze—this one actually being a lot more obscure and difficult to find than the previous one—four years after the game was originally released on the Wii U.
The new Metroid easter egg is quite literally a metroid alien found in Sea Cove Breeze(the game's fourth island) located in level 4-3 Amiss Abyss. It is quite a find because it does not simply show up when going through the level like Samus' ship in Busted Bayou and it requires some backtracking.
