Nintendo has uped the stakes a little bit after the less than successful first global event in which required players to catch 100 million Pokemon from November 29th to December 13th. Players fell well short of achieving the 100 million and only amassed 16.5 million catches. The next go around players will only be required to catch 1 million Pokemon, but they must be discovered using the island scan.
In order to use the island scan players must unlock it and get 100 points from scanning QR codes in the game. Using the scan allows players to find Pokemon outside the Alola region Pokedex. This second global event starts today, December 27th and it will go until January 9th, 2017.
