Back in May of last year, a rumour was doing the rounds claiming that Nintendo were working on a new
Star Fox title that would be a very different type of game than the ones fans of the series are used to.
According to the rumour,
Retro Studios was the one in charge of developing Star Fox Grand Prix which, as the name obviously suggests, would be a racing game instead of the classic 3D rail shooter style the
Star Fox series is known for.
While the rumour itself was somewhat out of left field, it is actually the kind of thing Nintendo would try to do in order to revive a series that time and time again keeps disappointing fans; more recently with Star Fox Zero on the Nintendo Wii U.
Star Fox Grand Prix was not revealed in any of the Nintendo Direct presentations of 2018, leading fans to believe that the rumour was simply fake, but a new report seems to suggest that the project is not only alive and kicking, but it will also be unveiled during today's Nintendo Direct.
The news comes from
GameFAQs user Vergeben, the same user that first revealed that Nintendo was working on
Star Fox Grand Prix, who has recently started a thread claiming that the game is going to be revealed during
today's Nintendo Direct presentation, alongside a Nintendo Switch port of
Pikmin 3.
According to Vergeben's sources,
Star Fox Grand Prix could be releasing in Spring, and Nintendo has already scheduled the date for a Beta soon after today's alleged announcement.
This is only but a rumour, but a
Pikmin 3 port and a new Star Fox game sound like a very viable possibility. The Wii U has a fairly decent library of great games that not many people played, so the
Pikmin 3 report actually gives the rumour a little bit more of credibility. We'll just have to wait and see what this Nintendo Direct has in store for us.
