Today has been quite a special day for fans of the Super Mario Bros. series, since Nintendo released a surprise Direct presentation that celebrates Mario's 35th anniversary; revealing information about upcoming titles, products, and even consoles in honour of their iconic company mascot .
Nintendo confirmed that the rumoured Super Mario 3D All-Stars was real, officially announced a port of Super Mario 3D World for the Nintendo Switch, a Battle Royale game in the form of Super Mario Bros. 35, and even a Mario-themed Game & Watch handheld console that includes the original Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
What's more, Nintendo also revealed that not all of the games showcased in the special Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct are releasing in the future, announcing that the classic Super Mario All-Stars has become available today for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
For those not familiar with the game, Super Mario All-Stars originally released for the Super Nintendo, and was a compilation that included the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, which was renamed here in the West to Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels; it was also the first time that the game was localised outside of Japan.
Super Mario All-Stars didn't include the original versions of the aforementioned titles, as all of the games were remade in 16-bit graphics — making each one of them look better, and even more timeless than ever before — and now Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can enjoy it today; celebrating Mario's 35th anniversary in full.
Nintendo Switch Online members can enjoy a curated library of more than 60 NES™ and Super NES™ classic games—including Super Mario Kart™, Super Metroid™, The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™, and more. Compete (or cooperate) online with friends, share your screen, or virtually pass the controller, depending on the game.
Nintendo Switch Online is currently available.
