The Messenger is a game developed by Sabotage and published by Devolver Digital coming to the nintendo Switch and Steam on the
30th of August.
When the game was announced, fans of the
Ninja Gaiden series were immediately left wanting to know more about it; especially because it looks like the spiritual successor to the original trilogy of Ninja Gaiden games developed by Tecmo in the 80s and 90s.
The Messenger is a game that captures the essence of the original
Ninja Gaiden games and improves on the formula while still offering players the same feel of the Tecmo games—not to mention the art syle, which keeps the look almost intact while still adding a few tweaks that make it look familiar, and yet new.
Today, Devolver Digital has shared a new gameplay video for the game that has Hideo Yoshizawa and Keiji Yamagashi—the original
Ninja Gaiden game director and composer, respectively—playing
The Messenger and also sharing some of his experiences when working on
Ninja Gaiden, as well as their thoughts on Sabotage's
Ninja Gaiden spiritual successor.
Take a look:
As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.
The Messenger will be available for the Nintendo Switch and Steam on the 30th of August.
