For the longest time, fans of id Software and Bethesda's
DOOM series have been wanting to see the Doom Slayer(also known as Doomguy) joining the roster in the
Super Smash Bros. series and, to the surprise of no one, the developers of
DOOM also want the same thing.
Among video game developers, having their series properly represented in
Super Smash Bros. is pretty much an honour, especially since Nintendo's popular series is the biggest crossover fighting game ever made; of course everyone would love to see their character joining the roster.
As it turns out the people over at Bethesda have had talks with Nintendo about getting the Doom Slayer in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but don't get your hopes high just yet — since these conversations are more "bantery" in nature.
According to
DOOM Eternal Director Marty Stratton, they have asked Nintendo whether there is a possibility to have the Doom Slayer joining the game, stating that "
I don't even know who talked to who, but we've bantered with them."
"
We have a great relationship with them through bringing Doom 2016 to Switch and that kind of stuff. So we have great people over there but it’s one of those things where it’s like, 'Wouldn't it be cool?' But it’s never gone anywhere serious, so we’ll see," Stratton revealed.
Unlike other popular characters like Goku and Iron Man — who fans still want to see joining
Super Smash Bros. — the Doom Slayer is actually a video game chracter through and through, and chances of him joining the game's roster are pretty high these days, too.
Like Stratton says, Bethesda is one of the companies that have been supported the Nintendo Switch pretty much since day 1, and
DOOM getting some kind of representation in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now more likely than ever. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed for it to happen, but knowing that they have talked about it is definitely somewhat reassuring.
