In a recent interview with Japanese website Livedoor, now translated thanks to the people over at Video Games Chronicle, Hideo Kojima revealed some details about possible upcoming projects, although he was given some sour news about this recently.
First things first, Kojima reveals that it may be too soon to talk about his next big project, but he is currently working on it — which should make fans of his work quite excited for the future.
"It's still in the early planning stages so I can’t say much, but on the down-low I’m actively working on it," replied Kojima when asked about next-gen Kojima Productions video games, and this is when he reveals that one of his most recent, and major projects has been cancelled.
"Recently a major project of mine got cancelled so I’m pretty pissed, but that's the games industry for you," explained Kojima.
Kojima does have some good news to share with fans, as he reveals that Death Stranding has been selling well and Kojima Productions is in no need of extra funding for their next big project; whatever this may be.
"We've absolutely crossed the line we needed to cross to be in the black, including recovering development costs, so I’d call it a successful result. We still have the PC release coming up, and we've secured enough to begin preparing for our next project, so there’s no need to worry," Kojima then added.
Death Stranding was first announced in 2016 and was just released in November of 2019. With the game soon to launch for PC in July of this year, an announcement by Kojima Productions about a brand-new game may still be a few years ahead of us.
With that said, it is still great to see that Hideo Kojima has not been discouraged by the recent cancellation of this project he mentions, and that he's still working hard on yet another project that will likely have fans excited once it is officially revealed.
