Naughty Dog's highly anticipated
The Last of Us Part II has been in development for quite a while now, being revealed for the first time at the PlayStation Experience back in 2016. This year, we also got a brand-new trailer that got a lot of fans of the survival/action-adventure game excited.
Sadly,
The Last of Us Part II skipped this year's The Game Awards, so we didn't get any new information regarding the project. The good news is that in a recent interview with Weekly Famitsu, Art Director John Sweeny and Director of Communications Arne Meyer commented briefly on how playing games from other Sony studios have actually helped the mimprove.
According to both Sweeny and Meyer, playing games like
God of War,
Horizon Zero Dawn, and
Marvel's Spider-Man is a lot of pressure, but has helped them realise new possibilities that make them want to strive to make
The Last of Us Part II a better game; all in the name of healthy competition with the other Sony studios, of course.
Those other games are setting hurdles that they, personally, feel they want to overcome—according to Sweeny; encouraging him to revise his own approach to making the game a memorable experience for fans.
Arne Meyer is asked if there's a sense of rivalry among other Sony studios and he says that there is some degree of competition but it's not about rivalry but rather a sense of cooperation, helping each other out when one studio does something another studio couldn't quite figure out how to do.
While neither Meyer nor Sweeny shared too much about
The Last of Us Part II, it is definitely reassuring to know that they are working hard to deliver players the memorable experience they've been clamouring for pretty much since the first
The Last of Us title released back in 2013.
In The Last of Us Part II, Ellie is now 19 and has found a semblance of peace and normality living in Jackson. She’s had a chance to be a teenager and forge lasting relationships. When that peace is disrupted by a violent act, Ellie is thrust into a brutal journey of retribution, fueled by a need to bring those that have wronged her to justice, pushing her to her very limits.
The Last of Us Part II still hasn't been given an official release date.
