There was a rumour doing the reounds, recently, that suggested that British developer Playtonic — mostly comprised of former Rare employees — was currently working on a brand-new entry in Microsoft and Rare's Banjo-Kazooie series. The developer, however, has shut down said rumours.
On Playtonic's official Twitter account, the developer clarified that they are only rumours, and that they aren't currently working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game — in hopes that fans don't get the wrong idea and end up getting their hopes up.
"They're rumours. We aren't working on a new Banjo game. We're clarifying this because we don't like the idea of fans getting their hopes up. Sorry," Playtonic explained.
"We love Banjo & Banjo fans though, it's never fun to come out and say these things, but we're trying to avoid hopes being pinned on us," the developer concludes.
This isn't the first time Playtonic has been involved in rumours about a new Banjo-Kazooie game, since in November of last year fans of the long-neglected series began speculating that Playtonic could be working on a new title when Banjo-Kazooie artist Ed Bryan had recently joined them; this, however, didn't mean that they were working on a new game.
While we totally understand the frustration Banjo-Kazooie fans must feel, especially since a proper game hasn't been released in almost 20 years(the 2008 remaster doesn't really count, folks), Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee is the perfect spiritual successor for players to scratch that Banjo-Kazooie itch.
