Sega Is Not Really Worried About Saturating Their Audience With Retro Market

Sega's executive vice president of publishing, John Clark, reveals that the developer is not really worried about releasing too much retro content to the point of saturation.

Back in March of this year, Sega announced that a miniature version of their Genesis/Mega Drive console was going to be hitting store shelves in September; following in Nintendo's footsteps with their insanely popular NES and SNES Classic consoles.

This Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini would be including 40 pre-loaded titles from the 16-Bit era — although they recently announced they would be no longer be 40 games that would be included, but 42.

While there is demand for classic titles from the 8, 16, 32, and even 64-Bit era titles, Sega is confident that audiences will not get overwhelmed by the amount of retro titles the developer releases, since there is always an audience for one of these many formats.

"When do you ever stop reaching the audience? There's always an audience there on one format or another. We've got great content and we're never going to saturate the audience for all of that retro content, so I think we're going to continue to bring it out as broad and wide as possible."

The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini is set to release in September of this year, and it is definitely refreshing to see that they are not backing down when it comes to delivering retro content for players — unlike Nintendo, for instance, who are still adamant on giving their Nintendo Switch Online subscribers what they've been clamouring for.

Thankfully, fans still have got Sega to scratch that itch for nostalgic titles; so let's hope the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini is only the first of more classic consoles to come. Dreamcast anyone?
