Nintendo's critically acclaimed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has set a new viewership record during this year's EVO event, with a total of 279,000 viewers tuning in on Twitch; something that no other fighting game had managed to do up to this point in the event's history.

While this is an impressive feat, it could've been predicted by the number of people showing interest in the game months prior to the event.

Back in April, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was already leading the event's registrant scoreboard and, just a few weeks ago, it was officially revealed that the acclaimed crossover fighting title had already taken the top spot at the scoreboard; with a grand total of 3,492 registered participants for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate out of 9,173 registered participants across all of the games.

Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown—a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch system! New fighters, like Inkling from the Splatoon series and Ridley from the Metroid series, make their Super Smash Bros. series debut alongside every Super Smash Bros. fighter in the series…EVER!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
