Earlier this month, controversy broke out when 2K Games revealed that they would be charging $70 USD for their next-gen video games — particularly revealed for the next-gen version of NBA 2K21; a game that is also expected to release for current-gen consoles.
The news didn't bode well with video game aficionados, since having to pay $70 USD for a game is actually quite a lot of money; considering that even $60 USD can be a tad too much for some video games out there.
What's worse, players believed that 2K Games was the first of many developers that would be charging those extra $10 dollars for every single one of their next-gen titles. This is particularly troubling for a lot of people, especially in times like these; you know, with the worldwide pandemic and all.
Ubisoft, however, as some great news for players out there, as they have revealed that they will not be charging over $60 USD for their next-gen video games.
This information was revealed during the latest earnings call, where Ubisoft mentioned that they have "plans to come with the same price as the previous generation of consoles."
"For the Christmas games, we plan to come with the same price as the previous generation of consoles. That's what we're focused on at the moment," Ubisoft revealed when addressing the $60-$70 price hike.
Ubisoft has previously confirmed that they will not be charging extra to upgrade Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and that those who purchase the game for current-gen consoles will get the game for free on next-gen consoles; encouraging players to play their games on either platform.
It is great to see that Ubisoft was quick to address this issue, and hopefully more developers will come forward and reveal that they will not be charging extra for next-gen titles; again, these days charging extra is pretty bad business.
