No Man's Sky is still currently on track for an August release says the developer, Hello Games. In an official blog post, the game's director, Sean Murray, stated--

You might already know this, but we had to delay the game from its original June release date. It’s now August 9 in north America, and August 10 in Europe. We knew that people would be disappointed, and we’ve certainly heard a lot from some who decided to tell us all about that. But we’ve also heard some super nice words of support as we make the final push.

I’ve said it before, but No Man’s Sky is the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on. It’s even bigger than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

The hype surrounding the adventure-survival game definitely continues to build.  First announced at E3 2014, the open world, space-exploration game boasts 18 quintillion "procedurially generated" planets, which the player explores for resources and can then submit to the Atlas, a universal database that all players of the game can access.  There are NPC aliens and creatures in the game, but the vast majority of gameplay is spent inside your spaceship. The player starts out on the edge of the universe with the ultimate goal of reaching the center.  The developers are remaining purposely vague on what will compell gamers to want to reach the center of the universe in attempt to keep that element a secret up until launch.

No Man's Sky will be released on PlayStation 4 on August 09 in North American and August 10 in Europe. It's a timed exclusive that will eventually be released at some point on Xbox.

Inspired by classic science-fiction and its overwhelming sense of adventure and imagination, Hello Games presents a game of unprecedented scale and ambition. A mystery lies at the center of the galaxy, an irresistible pulse that draws you on an epic voyage to discover the true nature of the cosmos. Whether you choose to fight, trade or explore, every decision you make has consequences, shaping your journey as you travel ever deeper into No Man's Sky. No Man's Sky is an epic science fiction adventure set across an infinite universe, in which every star is the light of a distant sun, orbited by planets filled with life - each yours to visit. Explore never before seen worlds, discover unique lifeforms and trade, fight and survive on a galactic scale. Explore a universe of possibilities - With over 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (18 quintillion) possible planets, No Man's Sky's procedurally generated galaxy gives players an unparalleled opportunity to explore worlds that no one has ever visited before.
