A few days ago, the official Twitter account for Crytek's critically acclaimed Crysis series tweeted something that had people getting their hopes unreasonably high. The tweet itself read "RECEIVING DATA," and fans of the series bean speculating about what this mysterious message meant.
Who could blame the fans for thinking that a new game would finally be released? The official Crysis Twitter hadn't shared a single tweet since December of 2016, so this most definitely meant that the developers at Crytek had something up their sleeves.
Today, Crytek has surprised fans of the series by announcing Crysis Remastered, which will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Summer of this year. The developer has also revealed that the series will be making its debut on a Nintendo platform, as Crysis Remastered has also been confirmed to release for the Nintendo Switch.
As revealed on Crytek's official website for the game, Crysis Remastered will feature the exact same single-player campaign fans know and love, but with improved art assets, better textures, temporal anti-aliasing, new lighting, motion blur, and a bunch of other graphical improvements.
Those who struggled to run Crysis on their PC back in the day, like myself, will know just how great all of these improvements sound. With that said, it will likely take some powerful specs to run at its full potential, but fans will more than likely be pleased with the results.
Crytek CEO Avnil Yerli has revealed that they expect to introduce the series to a new generation of players, and give fans of the original Crysis a proper remaster of the game for them to enjoy.
"We are excited to be working on the Crysis franchise again, and to bring all the Crysis fans a remaster worthy of their passion for the game. It's an exciting opportunity to be able to bring Crysis back to PCs and current consoles – even Nintendo Switch! – so that a whole new generation of players can experience the thrill of a battle in the Nanosuit."
Crytek only released a teaser trailer for the game, but from that very short scene we can already tell that Crysis Remastered will, indeed, be something special, and we cannot wait for the game to finally launch this Summer.
