Since the release of Xbox One Backward Compatibility, it has been one of the most popular Xbox features allowing you to play hundreds of Xbox 360 games and classic Original Xbox titles on Microsoft's latest gaming system. A week ago, Crytek's
Crysis trilogy also became backward compatible, giving you a chance to check out three critically acclaimed FPS titles on your own Xbox One.
Back in 2007,
Crysis, that launched exclusively for PC (as PS3 and Xbox 360's specs couldn’t handle this particular
Crysis in its full glory) and instantly reached the cult classic status, was a technical breakthrough. Just like Crytek's previous title,
Far Cry, Crysis successfully pushed the edge of the envelope and its reach, living, and straight beautiful world ultimately proved that high-end PCs allows developers to create real magic.
While
Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 focused on improving gameplay mechanics and story (as both titles were also available on PS3 and X360), the games were meant to be experienced on PC. The fact that Xbox One X is advertised by Microsoft as the most powerful console in history gave some players hope that they would be finally able to witness the
Crysis trilogy in its full, unlashed, and unlimited glory.
According to the Digital Foundry crew,
Crysis (that still melts the fastest gaming PCs a decade after release) and its sequels are facing many problems on Xbox One X, not to mention the standard Xbox One and Xbox One S. The titles are constantly dropping frame-rate, feature some old glitches, and it looks like we will have to wait another 10 years to allow
Crysis reach its full potential on console.
