Blizzard put Hardcore on the World of Warcraft: Forever roadmap. It is not a launch-day realm. It is the next official mode after the November 4 servers open.
The first Forever panel at BlizzCon 2026 closed with that tease. The published roadmap parks Hardcore somewhere between late 2026 and 2027, under the same "Winter & Beyond" block that also lists more raids. Official Hardcore realms are part of the plan. How many realms, and which regions get them first, were not named.
Players already know the mode from Classic. Official Hardcore realms have been live since 2023. One life. Resurrection is off. A corpse run does not bring you back. You can linger as a ghost for guild chat and then transfer the dead character to a normal realm. Duels to the death exist. Dungeon groups are restricted. The point is the 1-60 climb with no second chance.
Forever is a different world than Classic Era. As we covered earlier today, it stays at level 60 and keeps adding zones, dungeons, and raids instead of moving the timeline into Outland. Hyjal, Zephras Isle, the Riverglades, and Shen'Dralas are on the launch map. Nine new dungeons sit under that. Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit unlock in early December. Camping, optional transmog, and the SD/HD graphics toggle are part of the same build.
That mix is why the Hardcore delay matters. A permadeath realm on a game that keeps growing is not the same product as a frozen 2004 replica. New quests, new elite camps, and new 10-player and 20-player raids all change the places where a run can end. Blizzard has not said whether Forever Hardcore inherits every Classic Hardcore restriction, or whether the new systems get their own list. It would be safe to assume it carries most of the same resctrictions and rules over.
The company has already drawn one hard line on Classic Hardcore in the past. Fresh Hardcore Anniversary realms did not move into The Burning Crusade. The stated reason was that Outland's spike damage and randomness did not fit the mode. Forever never leaves Azeroth, so that particular problem is off the table. The new problem is content that did not exist in 2004.
Beta does not include Hardcore. The September 17 through October 21 test is capped at level 30 on the normal Forever ruleset. Name reservation for pack buyers is October 27 through November 3. Launch is November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST. Raids open December 9. Hardcore sits after that.
A live subscription still gets you into the base game. Hardcore is a later realm type, not a shop pack. The Skyborne Heroic Pack, Epic Pack, Collection, and $150 Collector's Edition are separate. They buy the new race, Zephras Isle, beta, and cosmetics. They do not unlock permadeath.
The social pitch from the panel still applies. Forever is supposed to be a long-term home. Hardcore communities already treat every zone as a threat. Adding official realms to a version that keeps receiving dungeons means those communities will have new places to wipe, and new reasons to film the wipe.
Blizzard did not list PvP flags, addon policy, or whether self-found rules will exist. It did not say if dead characters can move onto normal Forever realms the way Classic Hardcore deaths can move to Era. Those answers are what Sunday is for.
The existing Classic Hardcore scene is not going away. Forever is an extra track. Players who want the original 1-60 museum can stay on Era. Players who want the new Hyjal climb with one life wait for the 2026-2027 window.
