Battlezone is a classic arcade first person shooter game developed by Atari in 1980. In the game you take control of a tank that is attacked by other tanks. Premises in the 80s were that simple. Graphics-wise, the game uses wireframe vector graphics that back in the day were the norm to simulate 3D environments.
As a bit of trivia,
Battlezone is sometimes considered the first virtual reality game given that the arcade cabinet people played the game in had a viewing goggle in which they'd see all the action.
A newer version of
Battlezone was released in 2016, as a VR title for the PlayStation 4, that was a homage to the 1980 game released by Atari and included everything you would expect from a proper
Battlezone game.
Battlezone Gold Edition will be a free upgrade if you own the original
Battlezone(2016), on any platform, as a free DLC and without needing VR.
The game will include skin for your tanks, horns and bobbleheads for your tank's cockpit.
Battlezone Gold Edition will also introduce Classic Mode, that will feature the classic wireframe graphics you'd get when playing on the arcade cabinet back in 1980, as well as including a thrilling 1-4 player campaign to join forces with your friends.
Jump into the cockpit of the most powerful tank in the galaxy and battle the maniacal Corporation ravaging Earth across a procedurally-generated campaign for 1-4 players. Playable with or without a VR headset, and available as a FREE update to Battlezone owners.
Battlezone Gold Edition will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Oculus on the 1st of May. Nintendo Switch version of the game's release date is yet to be determined.
