For years, MLB The Show has been the Major League Baseball game to get if you're a fan of sport. But there's been just one problem — it has been a PlayStation-exclusive title, meaning no one outside of Sony's walled-off gaming garden could enjoy it. Well, that could be changing soon.
Major League Baseball, the Players Association, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and developer San Diego Studio have aggreed to a multi-year extension that will not only continue development and distribution of MLB The Show, but even bring it to additional platforms.
The press release doesn't mention specific platforms, but both Xbox and Nintendo seemed to indicate MLB The Show will be coming to these platforms. Of course, it will remain available on PlayStation as well.
It seems like this new multiplatform partnership extension won't kick in until after 2020, which will presumably be the final year MLB The Show is available only on PlayStation. Sony has already announced MLB The Show 20 for PS4 with Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez as the cover athlete. The series will head beyond PlayStation platforms as "early as 2021" with complete details being announced "at a later date."
