Pocketpair's Palworld was one of this year's biggest surprise hits, Released back in January via Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, the monster collection, the action-adventure game sold eight million units in just its first six days. By February 2024, it had sold over 15 million units.
And that's without it being available on this generation's biggest console -- the PlayStation 5.
It's been long speculated that Palworld would eventually come to PS5, but so far nothing has been officially confirmed. That may change later this month.
A list of games for this year's Tokyo Game Show was recently published and, according to Gematsu, includes Palworld as an exhibited game. The document lists Palworld as being playable on PlayStation 5.
While Gematsu notes that this list isn't definitive, it's now widely assumed that Palworld will be announced for PS5 at the gaming event. Tokyo Game Show runs from September 26 through September 29.
Our last update on Palworld coming to additional platforms came in June when Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe revealed that developers are "still discussing" the game's possible release on new platforms. Although PlayStation 5 was certainly a possibility, Mizobe ruled out the game ever coming to Nintendo Switch due to minimum system requirements.
Mizobe's comments came just shortly after Palworld's community manager posted an intriguing tweet that hinted toward a PlayStation port of the game.
Palworld released its first major expansion this summer, introducing a brand-new island for players to explore. The Sakurajima update, named after the new island, included new Pals to find, new bosses to fight, new raids to conquer, new items, and an increased level cap.
In Palworld, players explore an open world populated with animal-like creatures called "Pals." Players can battle and capture these pals, and use them for base building, traversal, and combat. Palworld is often compared to Pokemon due to the monster-collecting aspect of the game.
Palworld's popularity has dropped a bit since its launch in January, but a fresh release on a brand new console -- one as big as the PlayStation 5 -- could help attract millions of more players.
