Back in October, rumors were doing the rounds claiming that Sony would still be finally be working on making possible for PlayStation Network users to change their ID, and it was finally confirmed that it would be the case earlier in 2019.
Good news for PlayStation 4 users, as Sony has recently revealed that PlayStation Network ID names can finally be changed as of today; a feature that many were hoping would've been implemented back in the PlayStation 3 days, but there are some caveats.
First things first, although users can now change their PlayStation Network ID for free, they can only change it one time; if they ever want to change their Online ID, they'll have to pay $9.99 USD / CAD for said change. PlayStation Plus members will only pay $4.99 USD / CAD for the change but, again, it will only be free the first time.
It's also important to mention that the change can only be done via a PlayStation 4, so PlayStation 3 and PS Vita users — unless they own a PlayStation 4 — will not be able to change their Online ID. The good news is that this change CAN be done via any web browser via their
PlayStation Network account.
Changing the PlayStation Network Online ID has been something that users have been wanting as a feature for over 10 years, since the PlayStation 3 first introduced the online service, and while it took some time it's great that it's finally available.
The full list of details in regards to this new feature is quite extensive, so
