After all these years, playing tons of video games will now reward you with cold, hard cash...that can only be spent in the Sony PlayStation Network store. Still, it's better than nothing. Recently, Sony rolled out some tweaks to its
Rewards Program, revealing a new mechanic that allows gamers to turn in PSN trophies for money. Silver, Gold and Platinum trophies will reward the following points:
-
100 silver trophies sees a return of 100 points or one point per trophy
-
25 gold trophies will reward 250 points or 10 points per trophy
-
10 platinum trophies will give 1,000 points or 100 points per trophy
In order to earn a $10 PSN voucher, you need 1,000 pts. It's unlikely that casual gamers will ever earn enough points for a brand new $60 AAA launch title but it's certainly easy enough to earn a few bucks for a discount. If this program catches on, it will be but one of several death knells for physical games and brick-and-mortar retailers like GameStop.
Also, as every PlayStation owner has wondered, trophies earned before the program's launch are ineligible.
