As technology advances, the threat of information becomes more and more prevalent. Companies like Sony have had to deal with it for a long time ever since their first security breach with the Playstation Network during the Playstation 3 era. Sadly, these threats have not gone away.
Rather than game system information being compromised, it appears that game developers are also at risk of being the victims of a cyberattack. Koei Tecmo Entertainment has been the most recent casualty of a cyberattack; however, it has only seemed to target its English sites this past Christmas. Because of this, the sites have been forced to shut down while they investigate the breach temporarily.
For now, the company has confirmed that they see no signs of any financial information being compromised, but they are still investigating the intensity of the breach. Since the English sites were the only ones that were breached, it seems that the extent of the attack hasn't reached the company as a whole, thankfully. KT did not add anything more to their statement but make sure to stay tuned for any more updates.
With 2020 having been so chaotic, it almost seems fitting that it should close out with a cyberattack on a game developer. We would love to hear your thoughts on the news in the comments below!
