Sony Announces New PLAYSTATION VR Model; Will Release First In Japan
A new model of the Playstation VR is on its way, heading to stores first in Japan. What's the release date for North America? What kind of upgrades will this new model provide? Hit the jump to find out!
Sony has announced that a new model of the Playstation VR is on its way, featuring some changes to the headset's design, as well as some small hardware upgrades. Arriving first in Japan, starting October 14th, the new model (numbered CUH-ZVR2) will allow stereo headphone cables to be connected directly into the VR headset, according to an FAQ posted in Playstation's U.S. blog. In the FAQ, it states that the new design will also incorporate a slimmer, more streamlined connection cable, as well as an updated Processor Unit that utilizes HDR passthrough, meaning that users will now be able to enjoy HDR related content on their TV without having to first disconnect the Processor Unit between the televison and PS4 console. Players will not be able to swap out their old Processor Unit for the updated one, as the cables for both models are different.
In order to differentiate between the old and new Playstation VR models, there will be a slight change in packaging. You will need to look out for the model number printed directed on the package and the product image will be updated to display the changes made to the new model.
There is currently no release date set for North America, but the pricing of Playstation VR bundles will stay the same. Check back here for any updates on release dates and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
