On a recent segment on CNBC, Eric Lempel, senior vice president and head of PlayStation Network at Sony, revealed that the company enjoyed the biggest Black Friday in PlayStation history.
"We sold more consoles than we ever have in our 22 year history," Lempel revealed. As reported during the busy shopping days, the PlayStation 4 console, despite being out on the market for four years now, was sold out online at many retailers.
Not only were PS4 consoles a big seller during the Black Friday weekend, but so was Sony's online gaming service PlayStation Plus. "[PlayStation] Plus is a natural addition to that purchase," Lempel continued. "We wanted to add value to the consumer and really anything can happen on Black Friday so we wanted to make sure they went in, they bought a console, and they also bought PlayStation Plus because they'll get a lot of value out of that service with their new console purchase."
Lempel, of course, was referring to the PS Plus deal many retailers were offering over the weekend, discounting a 12-month membership from $59.99 to a very attractive $39.99. Not only was this a great deal for new PS4 owners, but existing owners could purchase PS Plus and stack it on top of their current membership.
We don't have exact figures yet, but I'm sure it won't be long before Sony shares some more specific figures about their record-setting Black Friday. Did you purchase a PS4 or PS Plus membership on Black Friday?
