Shooting on Knuckles began in the UK earlier this year, and the live-action TV series will see Idria Elba reprise his Sonic the Hedgehog 2 role alongside Adam Pally (who returns as the Wade Whipple character from the movies).
As you'd expect, the show takes place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the franchise's upcoming third instalment (which is going to be released in theaters on December 20, 2024). Now, another round of impressive casting additions has been revealed (via Toonado.com) for the Paramount+ spin-off.
Christopher Lloyd, Cary Elwes, Stockard Channing, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel are among those who have boarded the series but, as is so often the case, there's no word on who any of them are playing!
With that in mind, they could be taking on live-action or animated roles in the series, though the latter seems most likely given that cameras have been rolling for a couple of months.
Knuckles previously added Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up), and Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso) in recurring roles. Rory McCann (Game of Thrones) will guest star alongside Tika Sumpter, with the latter back as Maddie.
Little in the way of plot details for Knuckles have been revealed, though a longline confirms we'll follow the title character after he "agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior."
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 writer John Whittington wrote Knuckles' pilot and serves as Head Writer and executive producer on this series. Brian Schacter and James Madejski are also part of the show's writing team.
Jeff Fowler, the director of both Sonic the Hedgehog movies, will helm the pilot episode and executive produce the series. Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker are directing episodes, while Elba is among Knuckles' producers.
Hopefully, we'll have more to share with you about this one soon. The project is clearly taking shape with additions like these, and a first look hopefully isn't too far off.
