Henry Cavill is a well-known subscriber to nerd culture, having previously recounted the tale of how he nearly missed out on getting the phone call that he was new the Superman because he was busy playing Wold of Warcraft.
Though Cavill's run as the Man of Steel has been polarizing at best, he looks to have a solid winner on his hands with Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher as the project's first trailer debuted at SDCC to rave reviews.
Speaking to IGN at SDCC, Cavill stated that he's already played CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 multiple times, so for him, starring as Geralt of Riva in the live-action show is a bit surreal.
"For me personally, it'd be like playing another run of the Witcher 3 but with a completely different skin on...I've played it through a number of times now, and it's like OK, cool, I've done it, I've seen, and I still get that enjoyment of playing it through, but what if I could play it slightly differently. Then yeah, this is kind of what it is for me when you're doing the show. Yes, it's Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher, but he looks like me now. For me, that's an interesting thing. It creates a freshness to it, because the themes are still very similar.”
Netflix's The Witcher is without an exact release date but has been confirmed to begin streaming some time in late-2019.
