The fifth main entry in the Halo series was released worldwide on October 27, 2015 exclusively for Xbox One. Upon release, Halo 5 received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise directed at its gameplay, visuals, level design and multiplayer modes. However, there were many reasons to complain as the game's single-player campaign was way too short with a pretty lackluster ending.

According to Thurrott.com executive editor Brad Sams, Microsoft will showcase the next step in Halo evolution at the upcoming E3 2018, and the discussed project may be called Halo Infinity. Thurrott is a Windows site with a decent track record when it comes to Microsoft-related scoops, including leaking proven Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 and early Microsoft Surface Pro 5 details.

In the Halo universe, the Infinity is the ship UNSC built using Forerunner technology which was heavily featured in the events of Halo 4 and Halo 5. The original purpose of the ship was to be a mobile colony vessel in case of societal collapse during the days of the Human-Covenant war. The ship was last seen losing power after Cortana took control of all AIs at the end of Halo 5. Microsoft’s E3 press conference is slated to take place this Sunday at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 9 PM BST.
