Fort Deen was one of the most popular maps of
Halo Wars (which was developed by Ensemble Studios, the developer responsible for the
Age of Empires series that was closed by Microsoft over ten years ago), is now available for
Halo: Wars 2 as Fort Jordan, named after one of the programmers.
343 Industries (that oversees the
Halo franchise), has released a free update for the game, bringing the fan-favorite map to Creative Assembly’s sequel. "
The ever-talented Matt Jordan, aka “Wrensi” in the Halo community, has been working on a special project for quite some time," 343 said. "
With help from folks across the community and the 343 Publishing Team, we are excited to share a blast from the past, re-imagined in Halo Wars 2 for you to wage wars on – Fort Jordan! As many of you might already know, this is a spiritual successor to the 3v3 "Fort Deen" from the first Halo Wars."
Currently this map is limited to custom games as the studios gather more feedback from the community, so treat its release like a public beta rather than a proper launch. Considering that
Halo: Wars 2 hit stores in February 2017 (its predecessor was celebrating its 10th anniversary just two days ago), it's good to see Microsoft still supporting the RTS title with new upgrades and additional content.
According to 343, if Fort Jordan is well received by the fanbase and sparks even more interest in it, they could likely see an uptick in them, but the studio can't promise anything at the moment. Take a look:
