After countless rumours, Bloomberg has shared some new details about Grand Theft Auto 6 that have sent our excitement levels for the game through the roof.
It's said that the game is still at least two years away, primarily because it's being made under improved conditions compared to past releases. The company dealt with a bad case of crunch in 2018 in an effort to release Red Dead Redemption 2 on time, with developers working 100-hour weeks in order to try and get the title finished.
Rockstar appears to have a new approach to working as they look to "reinvent" the company and make it a more progressive place to work. That extends to the games they make, and it's said Grand Theft Auto 6 will avoid the sort of jokes that "punch down" marginalised groups.
Apparently, the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 5 sequel will include the franchise's first female lead, a Latina woman who is part of a Bonnie and Clyde-style duo.
The site also confirms that the map has been scaled back to be more manageable (previous plans called for it to feature both North and South America). Now, the focus will be on modern-day Miami (Vice City) and surrounding areas which will reportedly be expanded on over time.
GTA 6 has been in the works since roughly 2014, and there is some frustration within the company that it's taken this long to make (hence why we've had so many GTA 5 re-releases). However, it sounds like it's aiming for a 2024 release, and that should come as welcome news to fans.
