We're now a few months into 2023 and, unfortunately, there's still no sign of an official Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal. We obviously got some big leaks last year, but those ran the risk of derailing the game, so an official look would definitely be welcomed at this stage.
According to a prolific Rockstar Games and GTA leaker (who does have a very reliable track record), the current plan is for the sixth instalment of the franchise to be officially revealed sometime this year. Hooray?
That's definitely good news in all seriousness as we're desperate for an official sneak peek that shows what Grand Theft Auto 6 is capable of. All signs point to it being one of the most groundbreaking video games ever made, and after seemingly endless GTA 5 re-releases, the fact this next chapter is now on the horizon is a relief.
That was the good news, anyway, but you might not be so pleased with what comes next. Apparently, that preview won't drop until the holidays, with the game itself unlikely to be released until the holiday period in 2024 at the soonest.
Yes, 2024.
We expected that might be the case as a surprise 2023 drop always seemed a tad optimistic. Still, this is a long wait for a game we've already been eagerly anticipating for what feels like forever. Apparently, in order to meet this deadline, Rockstar Games may even need to cut out chunks of the game to drop as free DLC down the line.
"Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024," the insider states. "Which has been pushed back multiple times the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well."
"I personally see an announcement as a given this year. I don't think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be sustainable for management than delaying further."
Needless to say, we'll keep you updated on this one as the story continues to develop.
