The most recent instalment in the popular
Grand Theft Auto video game series released back in September 2013. Five years passed following the release of
Grand Theft Auto IV until the fifth instalment arrived. Based on this, you might think that we're due
Grand Theft Auto VI by now. Well, that isn't the case according to an industry analyst (via
Barrons).
In a recent report, Jefferies analyst, Alex Giaimo advised that investing in Take-Two Interactive (the parent company of, the developers of
Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games) wouldn't be a great call at the moment as they're not going to be releasing a new game in quite some time. Giaimo theorises that
Grand Theft Auto VI won't be releasing until the Take-Two's fiscal year of 2022.
“Take-Two possesses the most high-quality content amongst the U.S. publishers, yet valuation feels full. We struggle to find a near-term catalyst to push the multiple much higher at these levels...Despite the undeniable success of GTA & RDR [Red Dead Redemption series], we believe TTWO is now in a ‘soft spot’ when considering the timing of the next release.”
The predicted date would make sense given that; it isn't as if Rockstar are in any kind of rush given the absolute abundance of wonga they were able to rake in from the previous instalment - notably the microtransactions of its "GTA Online" mode. We're also yet to hear any official news about
Grand Theft Auto IV or even confirmation that it will even happen.
While Giaimo's prediction certainly holds more weight than that of your typical person, given that the former is a market analyst, it's important to keep in mind that it's still just a theory.
