Developer Shift Up appears to be working on a sequel to Stellar Blade, according to a new investor report released on May 16, 2025. The document outlines the studio’s development roadmap through 2027 and includes a clear reference to a “Sequel” under the Stellar Blade section—strongly suggesting that Stellar Blade 2 is in active development.
The chart places the sequel between 2025 and 2027, with its position hinting at a potential 2026 release window. If accurate, this would mark an unusually quick turnaround for a high-profile Sony-associated title, especially compared to other PlayStation exclusives like God of War (2018–2022) or Horizon Zero Dawn (2017–2022).
Sequel Announcement Hints at Ambitious Roadmap
The same slide lists “Platform Expansion” for Stellar Blade, which is assumed to reference the upcoming PC release, scheduled for next month. While not formally titled in the document, the inclusion of “Sequel” effectively confirms Shift Up is already working on the sequel Stellar Blade 2, hot on the heels of the original game's success.
Also included is a mysterious new title called <Project Witches>, which has yet to be revealed. Previous reports have described it as a “AAA urban sci-fi action RPG”, and it's believed to be targeting a 2027 release window, aligning with the timeframe shown in the investor slide.
Challenges Ahead: PC Port Faces Global Bans
While excitement around Stellar Blade continues to build especially with the PC port adding new content like a boss fight against Mann, leader of the Sentinels the game has encountered unexpected pushback. The port is reportedly banned in over 100 countries, due to its mandatory PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking, a point of controversy that has impacted other Sony ports, including Helldivers 2.
With Helldivers 2 recently suffering from negative reviews and backlash for the same issue, it remains to be seen whether Shift Up or Sony will revise the requirement before or after launch. The PSN linking policy has become a growing point of friction between PC players and Sony’s publishing practices.
What’s Next for Stellar Blade and Shift Up
Despite the porting controversy, the franchise’s momentum hasn’t slowed. With the original game barely a year old and a sequel already underway, Shift Up seems poised to elevate Stellar Blade into a long-term action RPG franchise. If Project Witches launches on schedule in 2027, the Korean studio could soon be one of the most prominent developers in the global AAA space.
More details about Stellar Blade 2 and Project Witches are expected to surface in the coming months as development progresses, so we will have to patiently wait for that time to pass.
