Grimlore Games has dropped an enticing preview of the next major update for Titan Quest II, and it looks set to breathe new life into build variety and loot excitement. The April patch focuses on two major pillars: the long-awaited return of summons across every mastery and a sweeping set of item improvements, including a brand-new off-hand type and significant buffs to Epic weapons. A full video breakdown is on the way, but the teaser already gives players plenty to theorycraft about.

One of the most requested features from the original Titan Quest is finally making its way into the sequel. Every mastery will receive its own dedicated summon skill, supplemented by new passive abilities that enhance summon play. The developers have taken a thoughtful approach here, aiming to support both passive and active summon styles without forcing players into one camp.

Passive summon builds let your minions do the heavy lifting while you provide simple support or focus on your own damage. Active summon play, on the other hand, encourages triggering abilities on your pets or empowering them through direct skill use. Builds with multiple summons can alternate empowerment effects, freeing up time to cast personal skills during the buffs. Modifiers will allow deep customization, letting players tailor exactly what their summons bring to the fight.

Most summons and auras function as “sustained” skills that reserve a portion of your energy. This design choice keeps them off the active skill bar, opening slots for other abilities. If a summon is destroyed, it automatically re-summons, reducing micromanagement. Players will need to balance energy investment carefully, especially in multi-summon setups that demand higher levels and more resources.

Here’s a quick look at the new summons teased so far:

  • Storm Mastery – Wisps: Floating orbs of energy that zap enemies with lightning and unleash violent blasts.
  • Warfare Mastery – War Banner: A stationary banner that menacingly buffs allies, heals them, and debuffs nearby foes through its aura.
  • Forge Mastery – Automaton: A sturdy mechanical humanoid that can equip different attachments for fire, cold, lightning, or shield effects.
  • Earth Mastery – Core Dweller: A tanky rock golem that slams enemies and casts fissures. It can be further empowered when you channel skills.
  • Rogue Mastery – Shadow Clone: A temporary copy of your character that mirrors your weapon. Unlike the others, it requires direct summoning and can teleport to enemies when using melee weapons.

These additions should open up entirely new playstyles while giving longtime fans a nostalgic kick.

Loot is getting a serious glow-up in this update. The biggest addition is a new item type: Talismans. Designed primarily as an off-hand option for mage builds, these replace shields and come with a guaranteed energy boost that many casters will appreciate. They’re not limited to spellcasters, though certain talismans will prove useful for physical or hybrid characters as well.

Two early examples shown are the Conch of Storms and Crimson Viper (the latter inspired by a classic artifact from the first game). Both look flavorful and mechanically interesting, with bonuses tailored to specific damage types and playstyles.

Epics have also received a comprehensive rework. Previously, many felt underwhelming compared to their rarity. The team has buffed nearly every Epic in the game to make them genuinely exciting drops again. Standout changes include:

Trygon’s Tail: This poison-focused dagger now emphasizes cold and poison synergy even more strongly. New bonuses to cold skill capacity, ailment power, and an extra weapon damage affix make it far more viable in tough boss fights, especially against frozen targets.
Perdix’ Sphere: Reworked to shine for Overload builds. The updated unique effect helps cleanse Overload stacks while adding direct damage and capacity boosts for lightning and Overload skills.
Harpe: Now better aligned with agile, fire-damage builds. Stats have been adjusted to fit the attribute system, and its unique effect lets fire damage scale with agility, creating stronger incentive for dexterity-focused characters.

Beyond these highlights, the update introduces powerful new affixes for Rares and Monster Infrequents, stronger potion modifiers, more ways to stack energy-related stats, and improved implicits on staves that better suit caster needs. The full patch notes will reveal even more tweaks when the update drops.

Taken together, these changes signal a clear intent from Grimlore to deepen build diversity and make loot hunting more rewarding. Summons bring back a beloved system with modern flexibility, while the item updates address long-standing feedback about Epics and energy management.

The April update is shaping up to be one of the most substantial since launch, giving both veteran heroes and newer players fresh reasons to dive back into the ancient world of Titan Quest II. Keep an eye out for the full reveal video, and start planning those summon-heavy or talisman-powered builds as there’s a lot to look forward to.
