While most of the rumors we've been hearing about have involved Resident Evil 9, the next mainline installment in the long-running action horror franchise from Capcom, a new report claims two more remakes are on the way.

Reputable leaker Dusk Golem claimed on social media this week that remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica are "in development right now." Although all rumors are to be taken with a grain of salt, IGN has corroborated the report that these games will be the next two Resident Evil remakes scheduled to release.

Capcom has not responded to the rumors, and it's unclear if these remakes will arrive before or after Resident Evil 9.

Resident Evil Zero -- released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002 -- is a prequel to the original Resident Evil game from 1996. With reports of unusual murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City, S.T.A.R.S. sends its Bravo Team to investigate. Players switch between rookie cop member Rebecca Chambers and convicted ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen as they attempt to survive the nightmares of the Arklay Mountains. Capcom released a Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster in 2016, and brought the game to the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which was released for the SEGA Dreamcast in 2000, is the fourth game in the mainline Resident Evil series. Set three months after the events of Resident Evil 2, and during the destruction of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, the story follows Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield as they try to survive the viral outbreak at a remote prison in the Southern Ocean.

Resident Evil – Code: Veronica was notable for being the first game in the franchise to be released on a non-PlayStation console. It also ditched the pre-rendered backgrounds of previous Resident Evil games to use real-time 3D environments with dynamic camera movement.

An updated version of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica was released on the PlayStation 2, titled Code: Veronica X. The revised game included new cutscenes that offered more story details. A high-definition remastered version of Code: Veronica X was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.

Although many fans are eager for a new mainline game in the series to be released, we shouldn't be too surprised that Capcom is working on these two remasters. The publisher has found enormous success with remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 in recent years.
