The last few days have been nothing short of a nightmare for Starbreeze, the acclaimed creators of
The Darkness, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, and
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, just to name a few. Following the terrible launch sales numbers of
OVERKILL's The Walking Dead, Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint's resignation, and the looming danger of a complete overhaul, Starbreeze has also had to deal with the Swedish Economic Crime Authority and their recent raid on the dev's offices.
Yesterday, the Stockholm-based company was raided on suspicion of “
insider crimes." According to a spokesperson for the Swedish Economic Crime Authority (translated for Eurogamer by a native Swedish speaker), "
The Swedish Economic Crime Authority has carried out a series of house searches regarding suspicion of insider trading at Starbreeze studios. One of the searches was carried out at the offices of Starbreeze studios in Stockholm. One person has been arrested and detained."
As well as the arrest, equipment has been taken, including computers and documents. In Starbreeze's opinion, the company itself is not under any suspicion and is actively cooperating with the authorities. Considering that Starbreeze has had recently a truly miserable time, players should expect some announcements regarding
Payday 3 and
OTWD's console launch delay in a very near future.
OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a four player co-op action FPS, where you and your friends fight the dead as well as the living. Set in The Walking Dead Universe, you and your group tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. Each character has their own Special Abilities, Skill Trees, Squad Roles, Play Styles and Story Arcs, but teamwork is paramount. The action is close-up and intense: take out enemies carefully with silent melee attack or go in guns blazing with your choice of each class firearms. You need to be able to improvise as nothing is certain and a horde of walkers is always right around the corner.
Overkill's The Walking Dead is available on PC NOW, as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions have been pushed back to February.
