More seasoned players, like myself, will remember Sega's
Wonder Boy series fondly; a series that took a pretty long hiatus and was recently brought back thanks to developer Lizardcube and publisher Dotemu, who gracefully remastered
Wondery Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, which is the remastered of the previously mentioned title, was released back in 2017 for home consoles, and was later ported to other platforms like macOS and Windows, including the most recent port for iOS and Android devices; both launching in May of this year.
Today, Apple revealed a list of the best-titles that have released on the App Store, and Lizardcube's
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap won the Apple TV Game of the Year; getting praise for its beautiful hand-drawn art style and re-orchestrated soundtrack.
Lizardcube thanked the people over at Playdigious — the development team that was in charge of porting the game to Apple's tvOS and iOS devices; low-key recommending the Apple TV version of the game for the compatibility with "
gamepads of modern consoles."
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is currently available on the App Store for $7.99, and it truly is a love letter to the original game and the 2D action/adventure genre; most definitely a game that deserved the Apple TV Game of the Year award.
This mobile adaptation will offer the full premium experience of one of this generation’s most warmly received remakes by fans and critics alike. Redesigned for PC and console in 2017 by Lizardcube, the game has been optimized by development studio Playdigious for mobile, including the iPhone X to best present its gorgeous, fluid depiction of Monster Land’s charming environments and menacing baddies.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, macOS, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Apple TV, and Android devices.
