PAX East won't officially start until Thursday, but SNK and Athlon Games have already revealed the event's first big announcement –
Samurai Shodown will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June, followed by Nintendo Switch in Q4 2019 and PC at a later date. The updated release schedule is definitely good news for those that play on XO or PS4, but Switch and PC users will have to be patient.
Athlon Games has also shared an all-new gameplay trailer for
Samurai Shodown accompanying today's big news. Considering that the classic fighting series has been missing in action for quite some time, seeing the upcoming installment (powered by Unreal Engine 4) in all its modern glory is definitely one of those rare feel-good moments. As a reminder,
Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny, the last entry the critically acclaimed franchise, released for Arcades in Japan and North America back in 2010.
Samurai Shodown will feature 16 base characters, including 13 returning fighters and 3 brand new contenders, with new heroes coming to the game in a series of post-launch DLC.
Shodown will be playable at PAX East 2019 in booth #15031 from March 28th to 31st. SNK will also host a panel,
Samurai Shodown: Resurrecting a Legend on March 30 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Check it out below:
After more than a decade, Samurai Shodown is back! SNK is rebooting one of its most successful series, carrying on the legacy of past titles with a new game that retains the same thrilling battles of past titles in a graphically advanced package. Samurai Shodown’s gameplay is driven by the tense atmosphere of being one strike away from death, and the exhilaration of defeating an opponent with overwhelming power and attacks.
