EA Says It Will Keep Investing Heavily In Apex Legends With Brand New Multiplayer Modes On The Way

The same EA memo that closed BioWare also promised more for Apex Legends, including brand new multiplayer modes and other experiences meant to expand the universe.

Apex Legends is not going anywhere. In the same company-wide memo that confirmed some of the hardest decisions in its recent history, Electronic Arts made a point of saying that its hero shooter is one of the places it plans to keep spending money for years to come.

The note, titled "Building EA's Next Chapter," was shared with employees last week and then published on EA's official site. It lays out how the publisher plans to concentrate its teams and budgets behind fewer, bigger bets, and Apex Legends made the cut.

What EA Actually Said About Apex Legends

The relevant section sits inside EA's update on its Shooters business. After praising Battlefield 6 as a great success, the memo says:

"We're also continuing to invest heavily in Apex over the next few years by introducing brand new gameplay modes in multiplayer, and other new experiences, to expand the universe."

That is a short line, but it carries a lot of weight for a game that has been running since 2019. EA did not name any of the new modes, share how far along they are, or attach a release window to them. It also did not explain what "other new experiences" means. That phrasing could cover anything from limited-time events to projects outside the battle royale itself, and EA has not clarified it, so it is worth waiting for Respawn to share specifics before reading too much into it.

What the statement does settle is the bigger question many players had after EA started talking about focus and fewer projects. Apex is staying in the core lineup, and new multiplayer modes are part of the plan.

Respawn And DICE Are Teaming Up Too

The same paragraph also teased something new. EA says it is "bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project" that will help it deliver a shooter portfolio that unlocks growth. EA did not reveal what that project is, only that it can't wait to share more when the time comes.

That is separate from Apex, which Respawn continues to run, and from the future Battlefield titles EA says are still on the way. For Apex fans, the important part is that a new cross-studio project has not come at the expense of the battle royale's roadmap.

The Rest Of EA's Big Memo

The Apex news landed alongside some much harder headlines. The memo confirmed that EA has decided not to move forward with early development on the next Mass Effect, which means it is closing BioWare and its Edmonton workspace. We covered that decision in detail when EA announced it was shutting down BioWare after more than 30 years.

Elsewhere, EA reaffirmed its two big upcoming action-adventure launches, Marvel's Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi game, while saying it will work on fewer large-scale projects at the same time. EA Sports has two new projects in development: a social-first open-world American football experience called "Project Gridiron" and a return for Fight Night, which is in pre-production. On the Lifestyle side, EA is prioritizing "Project Evergreen" for The Sims, pausing "Project Lotus," and moving skate. to a smaller, more focused team.

Read in that context, keeping Apex on the list of games getting heavy investment is a clear signal of how important it still is to EA's live service plans.

Where Apex Legends Stands Right Now

Respawn already laid out a busy year for the game back in February with its 2026 roadmap, "The Road Ahead." That plan promised two new Legends, a Skirmisher in Season 29 and another in Season 32, along with Legend reworks in Seasons 30 and 31 and an overhaul of the Legend Class system planned for Season 32.

The roadmap also committed to Wildcard events every season, with two Wildcard events per season from Season 30 onward, plus an overhaul of the in-match looting experience slated for Season 30 and a new way to wield an existing fan-favorite weapon in Season 31. Respawn has also promised a competitive update for World's Edge and a major map update with a dose of nostalgia for longtime players.

Respawn has described that roadmap as a living plan that can shift, and the new multiplayer modes EA mentioned sound like they sit on top of it rather than replacing it. Wildcard has already shown how much the team enjoys experimenting with the formula, so it would not be surprising if some of those ideas grow into something bigger, but nothing beyond EA's own wording has been confirmed.

For now, the takeaway is simple. EA has publicly committed to Apex for the next few years, new modes are coming, and the details will arrive when Respawn is ready to show them.
